The US Civil War was one of the bloodiest wars in the history of the nation and the battle of Gettysburg, PA, was one of the bloodiest battles with over 50,000 soldiers injured or killed over the three days of the battle, July 1-3, 1863.
NMD – If you’ve never been to Gettysburg, this year would be one of the better times to visit as the Gettysburg National Military Park is hosting a weekend of events to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the battle that turned the tide in the war.
A visit to Gettysburg is always awe-inspiring as visitors can take either self-guided tours using a CD that’s for sale in the gift shop there, or take a number of guided tours, also available at the visitor’s center, led by Licensed Battlefield Guides. Truthfully, I thought this would be the only place in the US I could go and feel what I felt that day I visited the battlefield but last year, I visited one other place that affected me as much and that was the Vicksburg National Military Park, also run by the National Park Service.
This YouTube video was done by a layman following his visit to Gettysburg and it’s a good one. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and if you’re in the area of Gettysburg next weekend, stop in for a couple hours, or more, and experience the awe of the battlefield. You won’t be sorry.
