Southwest Airlines & Boot Campaign Honor Our Veterans

Southwest Airlines has partnered with the Boot Campaign to honor our veterans and they do it with incredible style!

The Boot Campaign is an organization that began with five young woman in Texas who call themselves “The Boot Girls”.  What this organization does is raise awareness of the challenges faced by our veterans once they return home, some injured physically, most injured emotionally, and all needing the support of a grateful nation for their service and sacrifice.  The Boot Campaign asks supporters to wear boots to show their support; whether you’re in a suit and tie or shorts and a t-shirt, is irrelevant.

You can give to their organization either through a financial donation or by buying their boots through their site.

Southwest Airline, long the airline that does it better than the rest, joined forces with Boot Campaign by offering the “Country Throwdown Tour Contest”, where people were able to nominate a military family whose family member is active duty military or received an honorable discharge within the last two years, resides in the continental United States, and served or is serving any branch of service, including the Guard and Reserve.  The nominations included a 100-word essay on why the family is deserving.  Nominations will be received from May 24 through June 25.

This video, posted on their Facebook page, shows an (embarrassed) but grateful veteran, Jeremy Smith, who was injured by an IED while he was active duty and deployed, shows country & western star Jack Ingram serenading him and his fiancée, Sarah, as they fly on a flight between Austin, TX and Dallas, TX.

In contacting Southwest Airlines, Michelle Agnew with the airline’s PR department said, “Southwest Airlines is proud to support the Boot Campaign and their mission to support our servicemen and women.  This event is very special, because not only were we able to partner with The Boot Campaign to honor military veteran Jeremy Smith, but also delighted a number of our Customers with a surprise inflight concert by a special frequent flyer of ours, country music artist Jack Ingram.”

As a side note, Southwest is always offering some sort of contest and following them on both Facebook and Twitter is probably a good idea.  Oh, and make sure to wear your boots.
